Eco Council
We have recently set up a new Eco School Committee at Ysgol Ty Coch. The Eco-Schools Programme encourages pupils to engage with sustainable development and global citizenship issues. This gives our children the chance to discuss ways to make our school kinder to our planet.
Pupils take key roles in decision-making and participation in order to reduce the environmental impact of the school. In this way, Eco-Schools extends learning beyond the classroom and develops responsible attitudes both at home and in the wider community.
We have termly Eco Days, where we plant trees and plants, tidy up the school grounds and generally have outdoor fun. We recycle garden waste, make compost, and recycle all card, paper and plastics. We work with the local community council to plant bulbs and trees in the surrounding community. We are currently working on a project to redevelop the grounds at our Buarth Y Capel site into a reserve for local wildlife.
The school has recently won our 3rd Platinum Award for Eco Schools!
