Skills Acquisition

The Skills Wheel (Learning Wheel) which is used throughout Ysgol Ty Coch as a starter to a lesson makes reference to 6 Areas of Learning and thinking skills. These skills should be taught in a cross curricular fashion and be apparent in most lessons. We feel that this approach generates a more accurate picture of our pupils’ development and progress.

For further reference please read the Assessment for Learning policy. The Learning Wheel takes different forms throughout the school from visual, objects of reference and pictorial to fully electronic, depending on how the pupils in each class learn best.

In Post 16 learning the skills wheel references the areas of LLC, Numeracy, Health and wellbeing, Digital skills and  Independence skills.
